We are a digital media company with a complete solution for online video
In 2009, PlayAd Media Group (PMG) launched one of Sweden’s first video ad formats. PMG was also first in Sweden to offer a video ad format based on CPV (Cost Per View), a payment model which is now an industry standard. Today, PMG is a leading provider of online video in the Nordic countries.
Through the proprietary technology platform ad10, all existing video ad formats (video-in-banner, video-in-stream and outstream) are offered cross-screen in the largest premium network of websites in the Nordics.
In addition to the distribution of video ads in our network, our creative department PlayAd Studios offer digital campaign productions. We also provide campaign planning, optimization, hosting, reporting, measurement and monitoring.
PMG has developed a syndicated online TV platform, YouPlay, that enables publishers to share and publish their own content as well as premium content from PMG’s affiliated content providers, such as AFP, Videowire, Paris Mode, Getty Images, United Screens, World Sports, Look & Cook, Getty images etc.
“You can’t build a large online video company. You have to build a large online tech company that distributes video.”
Mark Suster, Entrepreneur and partner at Upfront ventures
What make us special is that we provide a non stop shop for advertising online, with all needed disciplines in-house. PMG has proprietary technology, its own sales department, its own creative studio to make digital production, its own video distribution channels and partnerships with content providers. We believe that the future of all forms of advertising success is to create involvement among the target audience. Therefore, we want the user to actively choose to engage, spend time and interact with campaigns in our ad formats. This endeavor is also reflected in PlayAd’s payment models, CPV (Cost Per View) and CPCV (Cost Per Completed View). We want to make sure to maximize the advertisers ROI.
The company was founded in 2004 by Tom Sundvik, Patrik Andrén and Fredrik Grahn.
Their ambition was to create an online platform where advertising, media and design agencies as well as other creative companies and individuals could present themselves, their advertising campaigns and portfolio of creative works. One year after the start of ‘Creative Section’, over 90% of Sweden’s major creative agencies, as well as hundreds of freelancers, had joined the platform CreativeSection.com and shared their creative work, covering everything from design, print, interactive, radio and tv commercials.
In the following years, Creative Section witnessed an ever-growing interest from consumer websites, who showed interest in it’s online database of TV ads.
In 2007 Creative Section launched it’s first video player, exclusively showing TV ads for entertainment purposes. The video player was distributed on some of the video website that were launched in the wake of YouTube’s early success. Realizing the tremendous commercial potential on the basis of the continuous strong viewer interest, the idea to launch a new and innovative advertising format was born: PlayAd.
In 2008, the investment company BBE Private Equity made a first-round investment in order to finance the development of a video player and video management system (VMS), the build-up of an advertising network and a sales organisation. PlayAd was launched in early 2009, with a number of unique features: user-initiated, interactive and with a cost-per-view model, all of which was unique at the time. As PlayAd became the core business, the company was renamed PlayAd Media Group (PMG).
In 2013 PMG acquired Ability Mobile, one of the pioneers of mobile advertising, which significantly strengthened PMG’s mobile offering MobileAd, covering both mobile display and mobile video ad formats. PMG also acquired the technology firm adTEN and their state-of-the-art ad serving platform. Consolidating both of the acquired company’s ad serving platforms and video management systems into the company.
